Aqua+ International Workshops in Iceland, 15–19 September 2025

The Aqua+ team gathered in Hofsós for an intensive week of training hosted by Ísponica, combining hands-on learning, local culture, and sustainability.

Participants began with brainstorming sessions and an introduction to aquaponics and vertical farming, before diving into technical aspects such as plant and fish species selection and water quality. Practical workshops allowed everyone to measure water parameters, check plant health, plant seeds, harvest, and experiment with composting.

Beyond the classroom, the group visited the Arctic charr breeding station in Hólar, collaborated with FabLab Sauðárkrókur, explored the Icelandic Horse History Centre, and learned how local fishing and agriculture traditions can be integrated into modern sustainable farming systems.

The agenda also included cultural and natural highlights: a geothermal pool in Hofsós, nature walks along the black sand beach in Sauðárkrókur, the Akureyri Botanical Garden, and excursions to Godafoss and Mývatn.

This training demonstrated how innovation, tradition, and environmental awareness can come together to inspire a new generation of sustainable thinkers and doers.
